Class 1

"FAN-tastic Pin Cushions"

Time: Friday, 1 to 3

Techniques: (Shuttle and Needle) Rings, chains, josephine knots, tatting with flat shuttles, tatting with a blunt tapestry needle used as if it were a shuttle, finger tatting, encapsulation and in the second hour we will work onion ring joins and needle tatting basics as applied to bi-color work and cluny, split rings/split chains, if time permits.
Projects: pin cushion, pin fan, pin roll, business card case,or half-doll pincushion (requires pre-work which you complete and bring to class ready to use)

Beginner Level: Beginner tatter who just can't wait to learn to do more.

Description:
We will create pincushions of enormous beauty and style and embellish them with tatting created on the spot!

Supplies:
A sense of humor and a smile :), btk
4 colors of thread for practicing techniques - 2 light, 2 dark
fine crochet hook
1 yd each fat thread in two colors for demonstration
beads, buttons, or other trim
scissors for thread, for plastic and for material
blunt tapestry needle fine
glue - fast drying

Supplies for class projects:
needle and sewing thread
a square of fabric about 18" or one large man's hanky or one lady's hanky which you have already trimmed with a simple tatted edging.
scraps of lace, edgings, doilies, boo boos, things that went way wrong, plus some good stuff too

Suggested only:
hemostat or other clamp
magic thread trick helping loops in dental floss, fishing line fine thread etc.
double-sided scotch tape
tatting needle and matching thread

There will be several options for projects on which to place your tatting. I will have most of the materials on hand for you in small kits ranging from 50 cents to $10 and they will be available in the vending area.
If you want to bring your own container to use as the pin cushion you can get the emery sand separately.

Class 2

"Tatted with Love, then Hidden Away, but Brought Back to Life at Palmettos Tat Day"

Time: Saturday, 11:30 to 1:30

Techniques: Tatting with flat shuttles, tatting with a blunt tapestry needle used as if it were a shuttle, finger tatting, encapsulation and free form tatting and in the second half-hour we will work onion ring joins. Hour two will let us touch on needle tatting basics as applied to bi-color work and cluny, split rings/split chains. If time permits, demonstrations of the magic mirror for tatting design will be held.
Projects: A placemat, small wall hanging, bridal bag or sachet, or etui all made from recycled vintage hankies with and without tatted edges or other decoration.

Level: Any tatter who can thread a needle, wind a shuttle, tat a ring or make a chain and who wants to have fun doing it.

Description:
Using Cindy Brick's "Hanky Panky Quilts" book as our inspiration we will work tatted magic.

one lady's hanky which you have already trimmed with a simple tatted edging.
scraps of lace, edgings, doilies, boo boos, things that went way wrong, plus some good stuff too

rotary cutter and cutting board

There will be several options for projects on which to place your tatting. I will have most of the materials on hand for you in small kits ranging from 50 cents to $10 and they will be available in the vending area. If we get into the hanky project you would want some good hankies new or antique already edged, but which you would be willing to CUT. I will also have a selection of vintage and new hankies for sale. The Hanky Panky Book will be available at the workshop $11.00. For the etui, some prework will be necessary.

Class 3 Team Teaching with Gina Brummett

"Time to tat, chat, teach and learn while finishing up the workshop projects"

Time: Saturday, 3 to 5

Technique: Any needed review may be requested on the spot
Project: Finishing your workshop project or doing a whole new one

Study Hall: This session provides additional instruction for the student who wants more direction and time to complete a project begun in an earlier class. Also, feel free to join this class if you’ve been working at home on a pattern taught in the Online Tat Class, and would like some guidance in its completion.

Level: For all participants at Palmetto TAT DAYS

Description:
Teacher will take requests for techniques to be reviewed while tatters complete projects or just tat along.

Supplies:
Whatever is needed to complete your project or that you need to review.

Conference: Saturday, 9 to 11, with Nina and Mary.
