Class 1 with Georgia Seitz
Tatter's Self Improvement Workshop, Saturday, 9:00 to 12:30
Needle and Shuttle,
Beginners & UP,
Techniques
Description
In the self-improvement workshop you will be able to request the techniques that you wish to study.
The most requested techniques are:
1. Split ring
2. Split chain
3. Self-closing mock ring
4. Encapsulating thread
5. Pearl-tatted (Maltese) Chain
6. Joins, esp. avoiding the twisted picot join |
 |
However, Georgia will be happy to alter the workshop focus to meet the needs of the tatters present. She has found that flexibility in the focus is more productive for the students. She will have small projects which can be embellished with tatting such as pin cushions, business card cases, and sachets, so the tatter can try out and display the techniques that they learn in class.
Techniques
1. Embellishing a hat-shaped pincushion with storage for a thimble in the crown with tatting using a round motif and an edging.
2. Embellishing a miniature (not to scale) hat with all rings to create a pin holder, needle case or sachet in Red Hat Society colors.
3. Embellishing a "hanky-panky" type collage of recycled vintage hankies, new hankies or fabric pieces with tatting designed using the forms in the hankies and other tatted motifs or flowers.
Skill Level
Beginners and UP
Supplies: Basics from list above and....
1. Pincushion
- Thimble
- You may also prepare ahead a 3" long strip of tatting just slightly wider than your thimble.
- You may also bring a round mini-doily with an open center approx. 4" diameter. (Be prepared to CUT the tatting.)
2. Red Hat
- Tat strings of rings in red or purple colors. Begin each string with a ring of 20 ds. After each 20 rings, decrease the ds count by 2 or 3. Everything is random, no set amount, just start large and end small. At least 100 rings. Leave 1/4" space of bare thread between rings. More ring strings you have the larger your project.
3. Hanky-Panky Collage
- Bring hankies (Be prepared to CUT the tatting.) or fabric pieces,
- One large man’s hanky
- Quilting pins
- Paper and pencil for drawing diagrams.
You may contact Georgia at AKTATTER@aol.com before class to request a specific technique to be included in the workshop.
Class 2 with Georgia Seitz
Tatting Mini, Saturday, 1:30 to 3:00
Needle and Shuttle, Beginners and UP, Project
Description
Many a home is graced with a Victorian style dollhouse filled with tiny treasures. Little toys, tools, plates and silverware, tablecloths and clothing, all made to the scale of 1" = 1’These graceful furnishings offer an excellent opportunity for embellishment with tatted lace.. Linens and bed linens have often been decorated with knitted and crocheted lace and even used to make whole items such as coverlets for beds and miniature afghans. However, the use of finer threads such as are used in tatting, create items more in scale with doll house furniture. Most doilies and edgings will need a size 70, 80, 100 or 120 thread.
Illusion is the key to creating dollhouse accessories. Simply taking an existing pattern and using smaller thread does not always work. The tatting must be manipulated to create an illusion. Naturally, using the most delicate of threads means that even small pieces may require two hours or more.
We will study doilies tatted in several shapes, with open and closed centers, table runners, mantle pieces, centerpieces, antimacassars, table cloth and bed linens as featured in “Tatting Tiny Treasures: Miniature Tatting for Dollhouses”, Book 3 of the Ribbonwinners Series.
You may bring dollhouse furnishings so that lace can be designed to match during class.
