BIO
Sharren learned several needle crafts as a child from her godmother and two aunts. Self-taught in many other needle arts, Sharren has always been creative, designing in many mediums. She first learned to tat in the late 1980's and began attending meetings of the Palmetto Tatters Guild in 2001 and served as our first Treasurer when it was formally organized in 2002. Sharren continues to share her whimsical designs with her many Palmetto Tatting friends.

Tatted Butterfly

Class 1 with Sharren Morgan
Butterfly, Saturday, 9:00 to 10:30
Needle and Shuttle, Intermediate, Techniques & Project

Description
This little fluttery has two rings for her body, and decorative rings around the edges of her wings.  When she’s resting, with her wings fanned out, you can see the distinctive heart shapes created by her upper wings and lower wings.  She’s tatted in a single pass and has no final ends to sew or weave in.

Project
Butterfly

Techniques
Throwing rings off chains and practice the SCMR (self-closing mock ring)

Skill Level
Intermediate

Supplies

  • 2 shuttles of different colors, sizes, or differentiated as “shuttle A” and “shuttle B”
  • 2 contrasting colors of thread, same size; wind one shuttle with each color
  • Crochet hook for joins (if you use one)
  • Scissors
  • Large safety pin, paper clip, or knitting stitches holder (optional, but useful)
  • Sewing needle (optional, but useful)

Class 2 with Sharren Morgan
Bracelet, Saturday, 11:00 to 12:30
Needle, Intermediate to Advanced, Project

Description
Bracelet

Techniques
The bracelet is being used to introduce a new needle tatting technique -- a beaded split ring.

Tatted Bracelet

Skill Level
Intermediate to Advanced

Supplies

  • Thread (Sharren recommends pearl cotton size 5 or equivalent)
  • Bracelet clasp
  • A charm
  • Alphabet beads to spell your name (or whatever you want it to say)
  • Tatting needle size 5 or 7.  Sharren recommends using a needle one size smaller than normally recommended, but she wants students to use what they feel comfortable using.
  • For the striver (the quick project you'll learn the technique on), you will need a lanyard hook or lobster-claw clasp

Additional suggested supplies

  • Crochet hook to make joins easier
  • Sewing needle to help work in ends
  • Either a hemostat or rubber grip to make pulling the needle through the stitches easier for those of us who tat way too tight.

Tatted Fob
Striver to learn technique.

Motifs for Hats for ALL Seasons, Holiday, Mood, etc., Saturday, 3:30 to 5:00
Needle and Shuttle, Beginners and Intermediate, Techniques & Project

Description
You will be making a motif to decorate a hat.  The hat will change with the seasons, holidays, wearer's mood, etc., just by sewing clear nylon snap fasteners on the hat, and the corresponding parts of the fasteners on the motifs.  Snap off the heart after Valentine's Day and snap on the Shamrock for St. Patrick's day.  We'll tat a butterfly for ANY occasion!

  • Shuttle or needle
  • Plain baseball cap ( Hobby Lobby had them for $2)
  • Tatting thread in a contrasting color to hat

Conference Class with Sharren & Georgia
Tat, Chat, Teach & Learn, Friday, 3:30 to 5:00

This session provides additional instruction for the student who wants more direction and time to complete a project begun in an earlier class. Or, feel free to join this class if you’ve been working at home on a pattern created by this designer, and would like some guidance in its’ completion. This class will be informal, so you may drop in at any time or schedule this time as a class for yourself.

On Time: As a courtesy to your teacher and your classmates, please arrive ON TIME to your scheduled classes. If you finish your project early, or would like additional time to visit, shop, or see the lace display, you may leave any class early.
