Class 1: Friday at 3
Simple Flowers and Booboos
Beginner to Intermediate, Project
Description
A personal gift of tatting need not be made by a seasoned veteran of the gentler arts, nor does it have to be costly or the size of Great-Aunt Flabby’s heirloom tablecloth. One can begin spreading the joy of tatting with few skills, some inexpensive articles and a lot of imagination. In this introductory class we’ll begin with making simple flowers and experimenting with use of flowers and booboos in creating some joyous lovelies you can share or keep for yourself!
Techniques
Rings, chains and picots
Skill Level
Beginner to Intermediate (Knows how to do rings, chains and joins.)
Supplies
Small amounts of thread in your favorite floral colors (hey – this is a great excuse to buy lots of different colors of thread – heh!) and a couple of foliage colors, too. Bring those bits and bobs from the mistake pile and an article or two that you would like to embellish such as a couple of greeting cards, a child’s garment, an ornament – use that imagination. I will also be bringing an assortment of articles if you can’t think of anything. I suggest you may wish to use size 20 thread, although feel free to use larger or smaller. The important thing is to have supplies you enjoy using. |
Class 2: Saturday at 8:30
Tatting Applique, Project
Beginner to Intermediate
Description
This class will explore different techniques for applying tatting to all sorts of articles for embellishment. We will make a small sachet to practice appliqué on fabric.
I suggest you may wish to use size 20 thread, although feel free to use larger or smaller. The important thing is to have supplies you enjoy using. I’ll have some tulle and other goodies on hand for the sachet project.
Also, bring a sewing needle and some sewing thread compatible with your threads selected. I cheat and use the transparent kind on about everything, but that can be rather fiddly to sew with. Use your own judgment. ;-) |

Helma's Flowers
Intermediate, Project
Description
In this class we will discuss the beautiful floral renderings of Helma Siepmann, Ruth Scharf, Lindsay Rogers and others. We will learn how to interpret some of their nomenclature in our accepted standard guild terminology. We will then learn some of the techniques originated by these masters and put them into practice by making a lovely floral brooch.
Techniques
Rings, chains and picots
Skill Level
Intermediate
Supplies
Small amounts of thread in your favorite floral colors (hey – this is a great excuse to buy lots of different colors of thread – heh!) and a couple of foliage colors, too. I suggest you may wish to use size 20 thread, although feel free to use larger or smaller. The important thing is to have supplies you enjoy using. One large bead roughly ¾ of an inch in diameter, one pin back and a sense of humor are all that’s necessary to transform your floral efforts into the family heirloom brooch. |
