Description
The flower starts with a central ring which leads out to a split ring.  The first part of this lesson will teach the student how the progression from the ring to the SR can be achieved without the need to cut and tie and with all ends hidden.  Also in this lesson a novel way of joining (under a picot and over one half of a split ring) will be shown.  This join leaves the picot lying over the join.  Very long picots interwoven over and under elements of a previous round are introduced.  Students will start with the unbeaded flower but once they understand the pitfalls involved in this pattern then they will be able to progress to the beaded version. 

Techniques
Split rings and working with beads for version 2.

Supplies
Unbeaded version – Thread, 3 colours no. 20 to contrast with each other – I suggest one should be a yellow of which very little will be needed, two shuttles (please bring them already wound with different colours).  Picot gauges ¼" & ¾". 
Beaded version – Beads (at least 2 different colours to match or contrast with the threads), a very fine crochet hook for adding beads to the very long picots, 3 safety pins. 

Preparation
Please bring two shuttles already wound.

Advanced, Techniques & Project

Description
The frog starts with the only SCMR in the pattern and is worked in one pass with no cutting or tying until the end.  To enable this, the continuous thread join (CTJ) is used  combined with alligator joins in two places.

Techniques
Working with beads, adding beads to the centre of split rings, using the continuous thread join, SCMR (self closing mock ring).  Note – there is only one SCMR in the pattern and the continuous thread join will be taught.

Skill Level
Advanced

Supplies
Green thread (no. 20), 2 shuttles, orange bugle beads (32), orange seed beads (16 for end of toes) and 2 large red or orange beads (roughly ¼”) for the eyes. 

Preparation
Please bring two shuttles already wound.  Ensure that one or both shuttles are marked in some way so that you can tell which is Sh1 and which is Sh2 while you are working.

Also there should be beads loaded on the shuttles as follows.  Each frog foot requires beads loaded in this manner: bugle, bead, bugle, bugle, bead, bugle, bugle, bead, bugle, bugle, bead, bugle.  Add beads for one foot to Sh1 & beads for three feet to Sh2.  The eye beads will be added to SR later but do not need to be loaded to shuttle threads.
