Jeweled Acorns

Karey Solomon
Both
Level 2

Comparable in size to a healthy red-oak acorn, these colorful, bead-jeweled acorns are a decorative fall accent for a wreath, or in a bowl on the table, or to carry in a tatting kit as a pretty and ouch-proof home for pins and needles.

Materials Needed / Preparation: For each acorn you’ll need one felted wool ball, about 1.5 cm (3/4 inch), a partial skein of brown 6-strand embroidery floss (one skein makes 3 acorn caps); small amount of size 20 thread onto which you’ve threaded 38 size 10 or 11 seed beads; one shuttle, fine crochet hook, size 20 or 22 tapestry needle (large eye, slim needle), paperclip or pin. Wind shuttle with 3-4 yards size 20 thread and three beads. Leave the rest of the beads on the ball.
